Larry and I ate breakfast at our hotel and then went for one last stroll down the main street of Banff. Believe it or not, taking pictures of all the displays of sweets and ice creams seems to satisfy me and I don’t feel the need to sample. Church bells were ringing out old hymns tunes, it being Sunday morning. There is a very nicely situated Presbyterian Church on the main street—Larry went in and dropped off his resume in case anything comes up… just kidding. : )
Off to Lake Louise and all I can say is “Viva la Bourgeois!” In my mind I had the picture of elegant ladies strolling the grounds in grand dresses and carrying parasols. In reality – the tiny lakeside was streaming with thousands of tourists and sightseers! The parking lots had long overflowed into the roadway. I was actually thinking that maybe there was an outdoor celebrity concert scheduled but not at all, everyone was there to see the pristine little lake nestled in the grand scope of the mountains. We looked at the historic hotel and spent a nice time viewing the mountains.
We then started on our way back to Edmonton and the picture taking was grueling. Not a moment to relax- camera had to be at the ready every second—the mountains were spectacular and every one of them different. Many of the mountains would peek around the corners of the one in front as if they were trying to get into the photographs as well. We were amazed at the variety of shapes and architecture.
Just as we were approaching the edge of the mountains we got to see a herd of mountain goats. Some were running down the middle of the highway and others were in groups at the bottom of a small cliff. They were as nimble going up and down as if they were flying, and they were very tame. It was fun being so close to them and they put on quite a show for us.
When we got back to the flat farmland Larry and I both felt a sense of relaxation and enjoyed a calm ride back into Edmonton. Those mountains really rule!
